Azure Route Server simplifies dynamic routing between network virtual appliances (NVAs) and Azure virtual networks by enabling BGP-based route exchange without requiring manual configuration of routes between the NVAs and virtual network. Applications Manager's Azure Route Server monitoring tracks BGP peer connectivity status, routes learned from and advertised to peers, virtual hub router data processed, routing infrastructure unit usage, and spoke VM utilization to help you monitor routing health and network performance.
To learn how to create a new Microsoft Azure Route Server monitor, click here.
Navigate to the Category View by clicking the Monitors tab. Hover over 'Child Monitors' under Microsoft Azure in the Cloud Apps table, and then select the Route Servers monitor from the displayed tooltip. This action will display the bulk configuration view for Microsoft Azure Route Server in three tabs:
Following are the list of metrics monitored in Microsoft Azure Route Server Monitoring in their corresponding tabs:
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| BGP PEER STATUS | |
| BGP Peer Status | Indicates the BGP peer status for the Azure Route Server at the time of polling (Aggregation Type: Minimum). Interpreted from numeric values:
|
| BGP ROUTES | |
| Routes Learned From Peer | The maximum number of routes learned from the peer for the Azure Route Server between the poll intervals. |
| Routes Advertised To Peer | The maximum number of routes advertised to the peer for the Azure Route Server between the poll intervals. |
| VIRTUAL HUB ROUTER DATA PROCESSED | |
| Virtual Hub Router Data Processed Rate | The total amount of data processed per minute by the virtual hub router for the Azure Route Server between the poll intervals (in MB/min). |
| Virtual Hub Router Data Processed | The total amount of data processed by the virtual hub router for the Azure Route Server between the poll intervals (in MB). |
| ROUTING INFRASTRUCTURE UNITS | |
| Routing Infrastructure Units | The maximum number of routing infrastructure units consumed for the Azure Route Server between the poll intervals. |
| SPOKE VM UTILIZATION | |
| Spoke VM Utilization | The maximum percentage of spoke VM utilization for the Azure Route Server at the time of polling (in %). |
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| CONFIGURATION | |
| Resource Group Name | The name of the Azure resource group that contains the Route Server. |
| Location | The Azure region where the Route Server is deployed. |
| Provisioning State | The provisioning state of the Route Server resource. Possible values: Failed, Succeeded, Canceled, Creating, Updating, Deleting. |
| Routing State | The current routing state of the Route Server. Possible values: None, Provisioned, Provisioning, Failed. |
| SKU | The SKU of the Route Server. |
| Allow Branch To Branch Traffic | A flag that controls transit between connected branch sites through the Route Server. |
| Hub Routing Preference | The routing preference of the Route Server. Possible values: ExpressRoute, VpnGateway, ASPath. |
