Note

1.The two systems (primary server and hotstandby) should be identical (same OS, same hardware)

 

To set-up primary server

Do the following steps:


To start as service:


1. Start NetFlow Analyzer as central server service.
2. Go to the Admin operation > settings > Failover settings , and click "enable" and update.
3. Shut down the central server after 15 minutes.
4. Copy the <NetFlowCentral>/mysql/data and <NetFlowCentral>/temp folders.
5. Start NetFlow Analyzer by going to all programs > ManageEngine NetFlow Analyzer EE - Cenral server.
You will get a message "Replication is enabled. How would you like to start your server?". Click "primary server"


To start as application(through command prompt):


1.Start the central server by navigate into <NetFlowCentral>/bin directory and then execute run.bat/sh
2. Go to the Admin operation > settings > Failover settings , and click "enable" and update.
3. Shut down the central server after 15 minutes.
4.Copy the <NetFlowCentral>/mysql/data and <NetFlowCentral>/temp folders.
5. Now open a command prompt and execute runPrimary.bat/sh.

 

To set-up hot standby


Note

1.The two systems (primary server and hotstandby) should be identical (same OS, same hardware)
2.Set the time / time zone same as that of the primary server


To start as service:


1. Install the central server.
2. Copy the database backup which is taken in the previous machine into the new installation <NetFlowCentral> directory.
3. Overwrite all the existing files when required by giving "yes".
4. Start the hot standby central server by clicking All Programs > ManageEngine NetFlow Analyzer EE - Cenral server > Replication > Start hotstandby server

  • While starting the hotstandby you will get an alert message: "Replication is not enabled. Do you want to enable it now? > Select "yes"
  • You will be prompted to enter the hostname/ IP Address of the primary server and Https port (by default it is 443)


To start as application(through command prompt):


1. Install the central server.
2. Copy the database backup and temp folders which are taken in the previous machine into the new installation <NetFlowCentral> directory.

4. Now open a command prompt and execute runHotstandby.bat/sh.


You will be prompted to enter the hostname/ IP Address of the primary server and Https port (by default it is 443)

Note

You can set the minimum failover time (the time after which the hotstandby should switch as primary server, after primary server failure) by going to admin operations > settings > failover settings > minimum failover time.
By default it is one hour.


Shutting down the Primary/Hotstandby server

As a service:


All Programs > ManageEngine NetFlow Analyzer EE - Cenral server > Shutdown central server

 

As application:

 

Navigate into <NetFlowCentral>/bin directory and then execute shutdown.bat/sh

Note

By default the minimum failover time is one hour. In case you need to manually start hotstandby as primary, shut down hot standby and start (for windows) NetFlow Analyzer by going to all programs > ManageEngine NetFlow Analyzer EE - Replication > Start primary server.

For linux, open a command prompt and navigate into <Netflowcentral>/bin directory and execute runprimary.sh.Once the central server is started please wait for 15 Minutes and shutdown the Central server. Start it as a service by executing /etc/init.d/netflowcentral start.


Mysql Tuning:

Navigate into <NetFlowCentral>/conf directory and rename the file mysqlConf.txt to mysqlConf-old.txt and rename your requirement file as mysqlConf.txt

Example - If your machine is a 2 GB RAM Machine then Navigate into <NetFlowCentral>/conf directory and rename the file mysqlConf.txt to mysqlConf-old.txt and rename the mysqlConf_2GB to mysqlConf.txt and save the file.

Java Tuning

"run.bat/sh" file contains the Java parameters which is present under the <NetFlowCentral>/bin directory of the Central Server installation. You can tune them by uncommenting the required and commenting the others."run.bat/sh" tuning will take effect while starting as service.
