License management

OS Deployer is a simple and handy solution that helps system administrators in imaging and deploying operating systems. OS Deployer comes in three different editions - Professional, Enterprise, and Free.

The Free edition is fully functional and comes limited with the ability to image and deploy operating systems to a total of 4 workstations and 1 server. So, if you want to manage operating systems in more than 4 workstations and 1 server, you can choose between our Professional and Enterprise editions based on your needs.

How does OS Deployer licensing work?

OS Deployer follows computer-based licensing in which with a single license, you can image and deploy operating systems any number of times on a single computer. Thus, our licensing is based on the number of workstations and the servers you would like to manage using OS Deployer.

For instance, let us assume you have purchased the licenses to manage operating systems for 200 workstations and 25 servers. If you have deployed OS on 150 workstations, you will be left with the license for 50 workstations and 25 servers. On these 150 computers where the OS is deployed using OS Deployer, you can deploy OS as many times as you want. However, for you to image and deploy OS in 250 workstations, you will have to purchase an additional 50 workstation licenses.

You can also retire 20% of those workstations and reuse the licenses on other computers. Let us assume you have purchased licenses to manage operating systems in 100 workstations. You can retire licenses for 20 of those 100 workstations and can reuse those licenses on 20 other computers. Please note that OS deployment cannot be performed again on the retired machines.

What if you are using the Endpoint Central UEM edition?

Endpoint Central UEM license is also based on the number of computers you manage. Consider, you have purchased 500 UEM licenses. These licenses can be used to secure and manage computers, mobile devices and also in deploying operating systems. Let's say you have,

  1. Employed 200 licenses in securing and managing endpoints by installing Endpoint Central agents.
  2. Employed 200 licenses in just deploying OS.
  3. Employed 100 licenses in deploying OS and have the Endpoint Central agent installed in it.

Here, only one license will be consumed if you've deployed OS and installed the Endpoint Central agent on a computer. Now, you will have 300 computers installed with Endpoint Central agents. Under OS Deployment license details, you can see 300 MAC addresses listed as you have deployed operating systems in 300 computers. Out of these 300 computers, you can see 100 MAC addresses greyed out as these computers also have Endpoint Central agents installed in them.

You can also retire 100% of those computers where only OS has been deployed and reuse the licenses on other computers. Let us assume you have employed 100 licenses in just deploying OS. You can retire all 100 licenses and can reuse those licenses on 100 other computers. You can also retrieve a retired computer and perform OS deployment. This is applicable if the OS deployer server version is 1.2.2315.1 or higher.
