Set up Gmail as mail server in M365 Manager Plus

M365 Manager Plus allows you to configure Gmail as the SMTP server to send license expiration reminders and product downtime notifications to multiple admin mailboxes.

Steps to set up Gmail as an mail server in M365 Manager Plus

  • Login to M365 Manager Plus.
  • Go to Admin tab.
  • Select General Settings → Mail Server in the left pane.
  • Enter smtp.gmail.com in the Mail Server field and 587 in the Mail Port field.
  • In the From Address field enter the Gmail address from which the admins should receive emails.
  • In the Admin Address field, enter the email address of admin who should receive notifications. If you want to enter multiple email addresses, separate them using comma.
  • Select TLS in Secure Connection.
  • Select Authentication, and provide the Username and Password of the Gmail account you had mentioned in step 5.

NOTE: If the Gmail account does not allow third-party apps, enter the 16 digit app password generated in google account, in the Password field. [How to generate an app password?]

Steps to configure Gmail account to allow third-party apps

Please note, this option is not advisable as some applications and devices use less secure sign-in technologies leaving your account vulnerable. 

  • Login to your Gmail account.
  • Click your avatar that can be found in the top right corner, and select My Account option.
  • Under Sign-in & security, select Signing in to Google.
  • Under Apps with account access, toggle the Allow less secure apps button to ON.

Steps to generate an app password

  • Login to your Gmail account.
  • Click your avatar found in the top right corner, and select My Account option.
  • Under Sign-in & security, select Signing in to Google.
  • Select App passwords under Password & sign-in method. You can see this option only when you enable 2-Step Verification. Please enable it, if you don't see the App passwords option.
  • Authenticate your identity using the 2-step verification process.
  • In the Select app drop-down, select OTHER(custom name), and provide a name of your choice.
  • Click Generate.
  • The 16 digit passcode will appear in a pop-up.
