NTLM is an authentication protocol developed by Microsoft. 'Network security: Restrict NTLM: Add server exceptions in this domain' is a security policy setting that allows you to create a list of servers that can aid client devices to use NTLM authentication. This list of servers would be exempted from a network-wide restriction on NTLM authentication. This policy setting can become is necessary to specify a list of servers which can allow NTLM authentication when deny options are set in Network security: Restrict NTLM: NTLM authentication in this domain setting.
This setting can be enabled by entering the NETBIOS name or the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the server in the space given in the policy setting window. An asterisk (*) can be added at the beginning or end of the string as a wildcard character. Wildcard characters are an advanced search feature that helps one to locate and act on relevant matches.
