SMS Notifications

In the list of notification profiles you can configure to receive alerts in OpManager, you will find that there are two options to receive alerts via SMS. They are

  • Email based SMS
  • SMS

Email based SMS

The Email to SMS option is a feature that allows you to convert a standard email into an SMS message. You can understand this process in 3 simple steps.

  1. Compose your alert mail using the fields provided under the Email based SMS notification profile's "Mail Composition" section.
  2. In the "To Email Address" field, enter the mobile number of the recipient, followed by the gateway (sms.serviceprovider.com) specified by your SMS service provider. E.g. xxxxxxxxxx@sms.serviceprovider.com
  3. Fill in the other required fields such as the Message, Message Variables, Subject, etc. Click "Next" to further configure the profile.

Now, you are all set to receive Email based SMS notifications.

SMS

The SMS option allows you to receive a regular text message when an alert is raised based on the criteria configured into the SMS notification profile. The process is very simple.

  1. Fill in the fields under "SMS Composition" in the SMS profile under Notifications Profile.
  2. Select the Gateway - SMS Gateway or SMPP.
  3. Finish and Save the configured SMS profile.

Now, you are all set to receive SMS notifications. To know more about configuring your gateway, click here.

What is the difference between Email based SMS and SMS?

Email based SMS converts Emails into SMS messages. For example, OpManager sends an email to your SMS service provider (xxxxxxxxxx@sms.serviceprovider.com). They will convert your Email alert into an SMS compatible format and will push the notification to your intended recipient. This is not the case with SMS as there is no conversion involved and the alert is directly pushed as a text message.

Note: To use these notification profiles, the Mail Server settings and the SMS server settings must be configured.
