How to back up and restore the M365 Manager Plus database

It is recommended to take backups before applying the service pack in M365 Manager Plus. This helps you prevent accidental loss of data.

Steps to back up M365 Manager Plus database

  1. Shut down M365 Manager Plus
    1. Upgrade the old instance of M365 Manager Plus to the latest build using the service pack before migration.
    2. Stop M365 Manager Plus.
      1. If M365 Manager Plus is running as an application, navigate to Start > All Programs > M365 Manager Plus and click Stop M365 Manager Plus.
      2. If M365 Manager Plus is installed as an NT service, navigate to Start > Run > services.msc and right-click ManageEngine M365 Manager Plus and click Stop in the dialog box that follows.
  2. Navigate to the <installation_directory>/bin folder and open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  3. Run backupdb.bat.
    • This will create a folder named Backup in the installation folder. This folder will contain the database in a compressed file.
    • Back up patch files if you have any. Copy the patch folder present in the installation directory.
    • Back up the Elasticsearch database if needed. Make a copy of the elasticsearch folder from the installation directory.
  4. The contents of M365 Manager Plus database will be saved as a zipped folder OfflineBackup under the folder name backup.

Steps to restore M365 Manager Plus database

Prerequisite: Before proceeding to restore the database, you need the name of the backup file you want to restore. In order to identify the name of the backup file, go to the <installation_directory>/backUp folder. The backup files are stored in this format:

OfflineBackup_yyyymmddhhmmss, where yyyymmdd is the date and hhmmss is the time at which the backup was taken. Make a note of the backup file you want to restore.

  1. Shut down M365 Manager Plus
    • If the product runs as an application, click on Start → All Programs → M365 Manager Plus → Stop M365 Manager Plus.
    • If the product runs as a windows service, click on Start → Run → type services.msc → Stop ManageEngine M365 Manager Plus.
  2. Paste the compressed database backup file created in step 2 (iii) from the old installation in <installation_directory>\bin of the new instance.
  3. Paste the patch folder backed up in step to the installation directory in the new instance.
  4. Paste the elasticsearch folder backed up in step to the installation directory in the new instance.
  5. Navigate to the <installation_directory>/bin folder and open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  6. Execute the restoreDB.bat file from the Command Prompt using the compressed DB file.
    • If the compressed DB file is restoreDB.bat compressed_file_name.zip, execute the following command:
      restoreDB.bat <installation_directory>/backup/backup_zip_file -c <old_installation_directory>/conf/customer-config.xml

Note: Use this when you want to restore a database backup from a different instance of the product. As your backup is created in a different instance, you will need to provide the customer-config.xml path parameter while executing the command. The conf directory in the installation folder will contain the customer-config.xml file.

    • If the backup file is created in a different instance of the product, use the following command:
      restoreDB.bat <installation_directory>/backup/backup_zip_file -c <old_installation_directory>/conf/customer-config.xml
    • If the backup file is created in the same instance, use the following command:
      restoreDB.bat <installation_directory>/backup/backup_zip_file
  7. Start M365 Manager Plus by navigating to Start > All Programs > M365 Manager Plus and clicking Start M365 Manager Plus.

Note:

  • If custom logos and notification templates were configured, please verify whether they still work. If they do not work, reconfigure them by adding them to the product.
  • Change the default storage path for all scheduled reports.
  • Reconfigure the Backup Storage Path for the backup files of your database.
