On August 20, 2018, T-Mobile's cyber security team discovered that the personal information of two million US subscribers was exposed in a data breach. The firm immediately took steps to counteract unauthorized access within the same day. Personal information of the users such as name, billing ZIP code, phone number, email address, account number, and account type (prepaid or postpaid) may have been compromised.
As soon as the incident was identified, T-Mobile immediately shut down unauthorized access to user information and reported it to the concerned authorities. They also notified the affected customers about the breach via text message. Fortunately, sensitive information such as credit card details, passwords, and Social Security numbers were not compromised. In light of the event, T-Mobile implemented stringent security measures to prevent similar attacks in the future.
