Understanding Applications Manager

Applications Manager is a web-based monitoring tool that manages the performance of applications, servers, databases, systems, services, websites, and JMX/SNMP-based custom applications in a complex IT infrastructure. You can find seven module tabs at the top which are explained as follows:

Tab Name Description
Intro Introduction page of Applications Manager. It gives an overview of the working of Applications Manager.
Home Displays the home page of Applications Manager. This page includes four key views: Default Dashboard, Business View, Availability and APM Dashboard.
  • Default Dashboard: This dashboard includes the following five default widgets that provide a quick overview of monitor health, availability, and recent alerts in a single window:
    • Monitor Groups – Shows a snapshot of all Monitor Groups and their current status.
    • Infrastructure Snapshot – Displays overall monitor status grouped by Monitor Type.
    • Recent 10 Alarms – Lists the 10 most recent critical alarms across all monitors.
    • Heat Map Widget – Visualizes monitor status for a selected type using a heat map.
    • Monitor Status Overview – Presents a pie chart showing the distribution of monitor states for a selected type.
  • Business View: This dashboard provides you a graphical snapshot of the entire business infrastructure which is being monitored. This view displays the various Monitors associated to Monitor Groups along with its health and availability.
  • Availability: This dashboard gives the Availability history of the Monitors/ Monitor Groups in a snapshot. You can get the data for either the last 24 hours or the last 30 days.
  • APM Dashboard: This dashboard is constructed based on the availability of data from the associated APM Insight and Real User Monitors. Following are the list of widgets that are shown in the APM Dashboard:
    • Apdex Score: This widget displays the Apdex score from APM Insight and RUM monitors for the last 6 hours.
    • User Sessions: This widget shows the total user sessions captured using RUM, comparing the count from the last 24 hours against the average of the last 7 days.
    • Failed Requests: This widget displays the total number of failed requests captured using APM Insight, comparing the count from the last 24 hours with the average over the last 7 days. This provides insights into error trends and potential issues in your application’s performance.
    • Problematic Platform: This widget displays the browser type with the highest number of errors, along with the count of failed requests, captured using RUM over the last 6 hours.
    • Top N Slow Transactions: This widget displays the top 5 transactions with the longest response times, captured using APM Insight over the last 6 hours.
    • Top N Slow DB Queries: This widget shows the top 5 database queries with the longest execution times, captured using APM Insight over the last 6 hours.
    • Top N Errors: This widget displays the top 5 exceptions that have occurred most frequently, captured using APM Insight over the last 6 hours.
    • Requests - Success Rate: This widget provides a funnel view of the total number of requests compared to the number of requests without exceptions, captured using APM Insight over the last 6 hours.
    • User Satisfaction - World Map View: This widget displays the country-wise Apdex score of the application plotted on a world map, captured using RUM over the last 6 hours.
  • Custom Dashboards: Apart from the already available dashboards, you can create your own custom dashboards by using different widgets.
Monitors Lists all the Monitor Types supported and provides the number of Monitor being discovered in the network. You can also click on the Monitor Types to view information of their Monitors. On clicking the Monitor Types, you can view the Availability Dashboard, Performance Dashboard and the List View that shows the performance attributes of the Monitor in detail.
Cloud Lists all the cloud resources that are added as monitors under Cloud Apps and displayed in the form of Availability, Performance and List Views.
APM Lists the application resources built on various environments that are monitored with complete code-level insights using APM Insight agents.
User Experience Displays the performance metrics of all the resources that are associated with Digital End User Experience with the help of End User Monitoring (EUM) agent.
Alarms Lists the alarms generated by the Monitor and their attributes, based on predefined thresholds. The view is customizable such that you can view alarms for all or for particular application or Monitor Type, list 10/25/50/75/100/125 entries in a single view, etc.
Settings Lists the configuration operations such as creating new application, new monitor, etc. to be performed for monitoring.
Reports Lists the Monitor Groups and the different Monitor Types for which the reports are generated. Reports can be viewed based on attributes listed for the corresponding Monitor Type.

The left frame consists of links for easy navigation and the top frame consists of links such as Talk back, Help, Personalize etc. common in all the screens. For more information on these links and icon representation, refer to the Web Client section. The various tables in the web client can be dragged and arranged as per your requirement
