ADSelfService Plus's end user portal includes a corporate directory search built on Windows Active Directory. Employees search by name, job title, department, email, phone number, or display name and get a complete colleague profile in seconds. Four search operators (contains, starts with, ends with, and equals) help narrow results across single or multiple domains, with no need to open the Windows AD console.
How end users benefit from ADSelfService Plus' employee search tool
Each search result shows a full employee profile: name, job title, department, office location, email, phone, mobile, and photo. Administrators can also display additional fields such as Object GUID, Object Class, and account creation time, which previously required running LDAP queries in Windows Active Directory directly. The corporate directory search is available from the self-service portal and requires no enrollment.
What employees can do:
- Search the AD employee directory by name, email, phone, or display name.
- Search for users, contacts, and groups in one place.
- View complete contact details including photo, hierarchy, department, and location.
- Filter results by domain or organizational unit.
What IT administrators can do:
- Filter the employee search engine by domain or OU.
- Customize which columns appear in end-user search results.
- Search user information across multiple domains simultaneously.
- View Object GUID, Object Class, Created Time, and other AD object metadata.
Search by any AD attribute to find the right colleague
IT administrators configure which AD attributes are searchable and which appear in results. Employees can search by department, office location, job title, email, phone number, or any other attribute the admin enables, and look up colleagues outside their immediate team without going through IT.
The search is also available on the ADSelfService Plus login page, so employees, visitors, and contractors can look up a colleague without signing in first.
Organization chart
ADSelfService Plus includes a built-in org chart drawn from AD data. Employees can look up any colleague and see their position in the reporting structure, their manager, and their direct reports.
Key features of the organization chart
- View any employee's position in the hierarchy, their manager, and their direct reports
- Hide unmanaged or disabled users from the chart via admin settings
- Find employee ID numbers and account details alongside hierarchy data
- No manual chart-building or third-party diagramming tools required
Because the organization chart reads directly from AD, it reflects current reporting lines without any manual upkeep.
Employee search across distributed and remote teams
Employee profiles include office location, city, and region, making it easier for remote and hybrid teams to identify the right regional contact or plan across time zones.
For organizations with multiple AD domains, the search queries all domains at once and returns results from across the entire organization in a single view.
Benefits of the ADSelfService Plus employee search tool
- Faster onboarding. New hires can look up colleagues by name, department, or role and view reporting lines in the org chart from day one, without waiting for introductions.
- Less IT overhead. Employees update their own AD profiles through the self-service portal. Contact details stay current without IT managing directory updates manually. Users can also reset their password and unlock their accounts from the portal, without help desk assistance.
- Controlled access. Admins scope search to specific OUs or domains per policy, choose which fields appear in results, exclude disabled accounts, and restrict the directory to authenticated users only—enforced with multi-factor authentication.
- No extra infrastructure. The employee search reads directly from AD. No separate database to import or maintain, no additional provisioning step, and no separate login for employees.
