Active Directory user account reports

One of every Windows administrator's key responsibilities is managing Active Directory (AD) user accounts. Besides giving employees access to their organization's network, administrators also grant users access to resources and information by assigning appropriate permissions and software licenses. Any hiccups in managing user accounts could not only shut down access for employees, but could also create holes in the organization's security and escalate IT costs if licenses are not freed from inactive or expired accounts.

To prevent these mishaps, administrators must accurately manage the AD user accounts in their organization. To do this, administrators need to know which user accounts have expired, which are about to expire, which users have recently logged on, and which users have never logged on. Microsoft's tools—Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) and PowerShell—make AD reporting cumbersome and time-consuming. ManageEngine's ADManager Plus is the easier, more powerful alternative.

Reports on Active Directory user accounts from ADManager Plus

ADManager Plus offers over 150 prepackaged reports that fetch intricate details from AD, Office 365, and Exchange environments, including status-based details for user accounts such as:

  • Recently expired user accounts
Recently expired user accounts: Lists all the user accounts that have expired during any specified period of time. Based on the organizational policy, or the current need, administrators can delete these user accounts, disable them, move them to a specific OU where expired accounts are held, or change the account expiration date to "never," all from within the report. This report also helps administrators identify expired accounts and free up licenses to save costs.
  • Soon-to-expire user accounts
"Soon-to-expire" user accounts: Find all the users whose accounts will expire in the next N days, weeks, or months. Administrators can prevent their employees from being denied access to their domain by proactively changing their account expiration date to "never." Besides ensuring users have uninterrupted access to organizational resources, it also helps administrators avoid frantic help desk calls from users.
  • Users with account never expires enabled
Users with "account never expires" enabled: Administrators can identify all user accounts that have the "never expires" option enabled for passwords. As this report also displays the account status, administrators can enable disabled accounts right from the report. If needed, they can also disable or delete any account in the list using the report's built-in management options.
  • Recently logged on users
Recently logged on users: View all users who have successfully logged on to the organization's domain or network. Further, this report displays users' last logon times. Besides showing which user accounts are active, this report also helps investigate any unexpected IT issues by listing all the users who have accessed the domain during a specific period of time.
  • Logon hours
Logon hours: Lists all users who have permissions to log on to or access the organization's network during any specific times and days, such as during business hours. Alternatively, you can also use this report to list all users who don't have permissions to log on during specific times and days. This can help administrators find out the assigned logon hours for users and modify their permissions as needed. For example, when the shift of an employee in any specific department changes, their logon hours should also be modified accordingly.
  • Users who have never logged on
Users who have never logged on: Identify all users who have never logged on to the network. From this report, administrators can easily find out all the inactive user accounts in their AD and disable, quarantine, or delete them right from the report.
  • Enabled or disabled user accounts
Enabled or disabled user accounts: Find all the enabled or disabled user accounts in AD. From these reports, administrators can easily enable, disable, move, or delete user accounts as needed or as per their company's policies.

ADManager Plus also offers a built-in report scheduler that can be used to automatically generate and email AD reports to desired users in any format, including XLS, PDF, CSV, or HTML.
