Terminal services (or Remote Desktop Services) enable a server to simultaneously host multiple client sessions. Managing Active Directory (AD) terminal services involves monitoring a number of components including the configuration of secure home folders and profiles, dial-in or VPN properties, sessions, environment, remote control, and so on. While PowerShell scripts might help you manage these components for a handful of users, the process becomes complex when administrators have to manage it for a large number of users at frequent intervals.
ADManager Plus, an AD terminal services management and reporting tool, helps you overcome this challenge, allowing you to manage the terminal services properties of multiple users at once via an easy-to-use GUI.
Terminal services sessions
ADManager Plus enables you to modify the session attributes of multiple users when they log on from terminal services. With the terminal services sessions manager module of ADManager Plus, you can configure the idle and active session limits, choose what actions will be taken when a connection is broken or when a session limit is reached, and configure reconnection settings.
Administrators can instantly bulk modify the following terminal services session attributes of users with ADManager Plus:
End disconnected session:
Specify the time period during which a disconnected session will remain active on the server. Setting this time limit (from one minute to three hours) is important, as disconnected sessions will keep consuming the server resources until they are terminated.
Active session limit:
Define how long users' sessions can remain active.
Idle session limit:
Set a time limit for how long users can remain connected without any activity before they are disconnected or the session ends.
When the session limit is reached or the connection is broken:
Provide an option to users to either disconnect or end the session as soon as the session limit is reached or the connection is broken.
Allow reconnection:
Provide an option for users to reconnect to a disconnected session from the originating client or from any client.
Besides the terminal services management, ADManager Plus also empowers administrators to generate detailed reports on terminal service properties and access.
