What is Interactive logon: Smart card removal behavior?

Description

Interactive logon: Smart card removal behavior is a security policy setting that allows you to specify the action that needs to be performed when the logged-on user's smart card is removed from the smart card reader. It applies to Windows 10 devices.

The possible values for this policy setting are:

  • No action - No action is performed when the user removes the smart card from the reader.
  • Force Logoff - The user is logged off when the smart card is removed.
  • Lock Workstation - When the smart card is removed, the workstation is locked while allowing the user to maintain a protected session.
  • Disconnect if a remote RDS (Remote Desktop Services) session - The session is disconnected without logging the user off. This enables the user to insert the smart card and resume the session later or at a different computer equipped with a smart card reader.
