Introducing Microsoft DHCP management in OpUtils: From monitoring to full control

If you manage enterprise networks, this scenario probably sounds familiar: An IP conflict surfaces, connectivity drops for a group of users, and the confusion begins. You check your DHCP server, dig through scope utilization, and try to piece together what went wrong, often after the disruption has already occurred.

For years, network administrators have needed a single console for visibility and control into DHCP. That's why we’re excited to announce the launch of Microsoft DHCP management in ManageEngine OpUtils, a major step forward that transforms how you monitor and control your DHCP infrastructure.

What OpUtils already does for DHCP monitoring

OpUtils already provides real-time DHCP monitoring, including scope utilization, alerts, reporting, and multi-vendor visibility from a single console.

But visibility alone isn’t enough. When a scope nears exhaustion, administrators still need to switch to a different tool to make changes. The new Microsoft DHCP management capability in OpUtils eliminates this gap by enabling direct scope management from a single interface.

What’s new: Full DHCP management inside OpUtils

The new Microsoft DHCP management capability introduces three major additions to OpUtils, allowing administrators to move from monitoring to active control of their DHCP infrastructure.

1. Complete DHCP scope management

You can now create, modify, and delete DHCP scopes directly from the OpUtils console. Configure IP ranges, manage exclusions so specific addresses aren't automatically assigned, and reserve IP addresses for critical devices such as servers, printers, or access points.

  • Monitor, create, delete, and modify scopes across all your DHCP servers from a single console.

  • Configure IP ranges and subnet masks to align with your network design.

  • Manage exclusions and reservations for precise IP address control.

  • Track scope utilization and receive alerts before exhaustion impacts users.

2. DHCP policy management

DHCP policies allow administrators to control how IP addresses and options are assigned based on client characteristics such as device type, vendor class, or user group. In large environments, these policies can become difficult to track or maintain.

OpUtils now enables centralized policy management so administrators can create, assign, and monitor DHCP policies without switching between tools.

  • Create and manage DHCP policies that control IP assignment and option configuration.

  • Apply policies based on device categories, user groups, or other client attributes.

  • Automate IP assignment to reduce manual configuration and human error.

  • Track policy compliance to maintain consistent network behavior.

3. WinRM-based remote management

OpUtils connects to Microsoft DHCP servers using Windows Remote Management (WinRM), enabling secure remote administration. Administrators can monitor scopes, manage leases, configure DHCP options, and troubleshoot issues without logging directly into the server.

This approach allows teams to manage distributed DHCP infrastructure from a central console while maintaining secure and auditable access.

Why DHCP management matters for your team

The shift from monitoring to management is more than just a feature upgrade, it changes the workflow for network administrators. Previously, spotting a problem in OpUtils meant context-switching to your DHCP server's management interface to fix it. Now, the detection and the remediation happen in the same place.

For teams managing large, distributed networks, this centralization matters. Maintaining consistent DHCP configurations across multiple servers is tedious and error-prone when done manually.

With OpUtils, you get a single pane of glass to oversee scopes and policies across your entire Microsoft DHCP infrastructure with the audit trail and alerting that enterprise environments demand.

Proactive troubleshooting also becomes more practical. Rather than detecting IP conflicts after they occur, administrators can identify misconfigured scopes, overlapping ranges, or policy violations early and resolve them before they cascade into connectivity issues.
