Disable / Delete Exchange Mailbox

Deleting Exchange mailboxes is a fairly simple and completely-GUI oriented task in ADManager Plus. In fact, you can delete (or disable) Exchange mailboxes as and when you de-provision a user account - all from one single screen. (ADManager Plus allows you to create "Delete Policy", wherein you can list out the entitlements - such as Exchange mailboxes, home folders, roaming profiles - that have to be deleted (or disconnected) when a user leaves. It's what we call as "one-click user de-provisioning". (What's more, you can even automate user de-provisioning. Check out how...)

Usually, deleting the mailboxes of users is a roundabout Exchange task when done natively. Whenever an active directory user's Exchange mailbox has to be deleted, the administrator sometimes has to toggle between several tools - active directory user management consoles and different exchange tools for different versions of Exchange Server. And when the mailboxes of many users have to be deleted using the native tools of Active Directory and Exchange, the task becomes even more tedious and painstaking, forcing administrators to resort to scripting. Moreover, since such tasks and methods require sound "Exchange knowledge" and familiarity with the native tools, offloading it to helpdesk becomes out of question.

However, ADManager Plus offers an alternative, remedying the shortcomings discussed above.

With ADManager Plus, the web-based Active Directory and Exchange Management and Reporting software, administrators no longer have to constantly toggle between multiple tools or applications to delete/ disable a user's mailbox. This task can be accomplished from ADManager Plus's console using its 'Disable/Delete User Mailbox' feature. You can disable/delete the mailbox of multiple users in just a single operation.

ADManager Plus gives the following options for deleting/disabling the mailbox of users:

  • Disable User Mailbox option is available for all versions of Exchange 2003/2007/2010
  • Disconnect User Mailbox option is available only for Exchange 2007/2010
  • Delete User Mailbox option applies only for Exchange 2007/2010

An IT Manager needs to see an overall picture of all Active Directory users and objects to take business and mission critical decisions. ADManager Plus provides IT Managers with an at-a-glance dashboard view of the reports on all users, groups, objects and more, to assist in making informed decisions.

The role of an IT Administrator is to manage all network resources, for which up-to-date information on all users, objects, groups along with knowledge of account status of users, is required. The administrator has to perform management tasks like user creation, password resets, unlock user accounts, delete users, enable or disable users, move user home folders and more. ADManager Plus helps IT Administrators in creating and modifying users and objects in "bulk", using a CSV file and Templates. It also provides the facility to generate reports on specific attributes on Active Directory and perform management functions from these Reports.

Help Desks techs are loaded with routine management tasks "delegated" to them by the administrator which involve password resets, account unlocks, user creation and other management functions. ADManager Plus provides the administrator with privileges to delegate specific roles to help desk technicians and restricted to one or more Organizational Units. Help Desk techicians can manage users that have been delegated to them from ADManager Plus web console easily even with little knowledge of command lines and scripts.

ADManager Plus allows end users to self-update their own personal information in Active Directory in real time. This helps in keeping information in the Active Directory current and up-to-date and reduces the help desk burden to a great extent. With an ADSearch feature, ADManager Plus acts as a web-based telephone index.

IT Auditors are more interested to know the compliance status of an organization, for which they require information on audit status of users. ADManager Plus supports the IT Auditors with reports which are useful in achieving Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulatory compliance, pertaining to Active Directory management.
