First discovered in 2018, Shlayer malware has become one of the most common masOS first-stage trojan downloaders. Shlayer's distribution is through malvertisements, a process where users are redirected to malicious content or malicious advertisements while accessing websites.
Once the user clicks on these malvertisements, Shlayer is then downloaded and mounted on their system. The attackers then use social engineering tactics to install the malware. A .dmg file displays step-by-step instructions that cause the installation of the malware.
