318125: Interface initilaization failed

Cisco ASA is a security device that provides the combined capabilities of a firewall, an antivirus, and an intrusion prevention system. It also facilitates virtual private network (VPN) connections. It helps to detect threats and stop attacks before they spread through the network.

Message: %ASA-3-318125: Init failed for interface IF_NAME.

Event 318125 is generated when the interface initialization fails. The possible reasons could be:

  • The area to which the interface is to be attached was deleted.
  • It was not possible to create the link scope database.
  • It was not possible to create a neighbor data lock for the local router.

How could you resolve this situation?

Remove the configuration command that initializes the interface and then try it again.
