ADSelfService Plus' Professional Edition offers extra features, such as password resets from Windows, macOS, and Linux logon screens; conditional access or context-based MFA; and cached credentials updates for remote password resets, when compared to the Standard Edition.

No, the size of your organization does not decide the edition of ADSelfService Plus that you have to purchase. You can compare your company's business requirements with the offerings of each ADSelfService Plus edition and choose the one that best suits your needs.

The Evaluation Edition is a free trial version of the Professional Edition of ADSelfService Plus that lasts for a period of 30 days. It lets users explore and evaluate ADSelfService Plus prior to purchase. It offers all of ADSelfService Plus' capabilities including the Professional Edition of Endpoint MFA, along with 24/5 technical support for unlimited domains and domain users.

ADSelfService Plus' Evaluation Edition offers all the features of the Professional Edition of ADSelfService Plus, including the Standard/Professional Edition of Endpoint MFA, for unlimited users for 30 days.

The Free Edition offers all the features of the Standard Edition and is limited to 50 domain users for an unlimited time. It also includes the Standard Edition of Endpoint MFA for 10 users.

Both editions are free of cost. The Evaluation Edition gets converted to the Free Edition 30 days after installation. The SMS Add-on offers a third-party SMS gateway, Clickatell, to send notifications and MFA verification codes via SMS. The add-on can be purchased in terms of SMS credits with any edition of ADSelfService Plus if you have a requirement for SMS notifications. The price of the Failover and Secure Gateway Services Add-on remains constant for both Standard and Professional editions, regardless of the number of domain users.

The SMS add-on is priced not by the number of users but by the number of SMS credits being purchased.

The Failover and Secure Gateway Services Add-on will not be provided by default when you purchase an edition of ADSelfService Plus. You will have to purchase it separately according to your organization's requirements.

The Standard Edition of Endpoint MFA will be provided by default for 10 users when you purchase any edition of ADSelfService Plus. To utilize Endpoint MFA for a greater number of users, you will have to purchase it separately.

The price details of all ADSelfService Plus editions can be found here. The prices of the Standard and Professional editions vary based on the number of domain users and are billed on an annual or perpetual subscription basis.

The annual subscription model includes a yearly renewal of the license fee, which is inclusive of the support fees, to keep the product up and running. In the perpetual subscription model, the license fee is one-time and permanent, but the support fee must be renewed on a yearly basis. The annual and perpetual subscription models apply to both the Standard and Professional editions of ADSelfService Plus.

In the perpetual subscription model, the support fee for the first year must be paid along with the license purchase. For subsequent years, it can be paid separately. You can also pay the support fee for more than one year while purchasing the perpetual license.

The ADSelfService Plus AMS or support fee includes phone and email support, service packs, bug fixes, minor updates, and major upgrades for any edition of ADSelfService Plus.

The license fee that is paid yearly in the annual subscription model includes the AMS fee, so it does not have to be paid separately. In the perpetual subscription model, though the license fee is one-time and permanent, the AMS fee must be paid every year. You can also pay the AMS fee for more than one year in the perpetual subscription model during the initial purchase.

The yearly AMS fee payment in the perpetual subscription model also includes the AMS fees for add-ons, if you have purchased any. For the annual subscription model, however, these AMS fees for add-ons do not apply because the yearly license renewal fee includes the add-on fees as well.

License consumption in ADSelfService Plus happens globally for each user and is not feature-specific. This means that when a user accesses the ADSelfService Plus portal for the first time to initiate an action, such as a self-service password reset operation, a whole license is consumed in their name, allowing them to enjoy all the features of that particular ADSelfService Plus edition that you have purchased for your organization.

The following actions consume a license pertaining to a domain user in ADSelfService Plus, regardless of the edition you are using:

1. Self-service or automatic password reset
2. Self-service or automatic account unlock
3. Logon to the portal and endpoints (when Endpoint MFA is enabled)
4. Enrollment using a logon script
5. Quick Enrollment by the administrator
6. Technician creation

No. Since ADSelfService Plus follows a global licensing model rather than a feature-based one, you cannot purchase user licenses for a specific feature. For example, you need to purchase ADSelfService Plus' Standard or Professional Edition as a whole for all users, even if they only have a requirement for self-service password reset out of all the other features of that particular ADSelfService Plus edition.

If you have purchased ADSelfService Plus' Standard or Professional Edition for 1,000 domain users, and user #1,001 tries to log on to the ADSelfService Plus portal to initiate a self-service action, the portal will display an error message saying, "The license limit has been exceeded. Please contact your administrator."

In the case of machine logon MFA, which is a part of Endpoint MFA, MFA is simply skipped for those extra users who are trying to log on to their machines beyond the license limit. In other words, users are not stopped from accessing machines once the purchased number of licenses is utilized.

The pricing for Endpoint MFA varies based on the edition as well as the number of domain users for whom it is purchased.

Endpoint MFA is available in Standard and Professional editions along with the corresponding editions of ADSelfService Plus.

The Standard edition offers features such as MFA support for machines running Windows, macOS and Linux, SSO support, etc. The Profession edition includes all the features of the Standard edition as well as advanced features like Adaptive SSO, Adaptive MFA, and Offline MFA support. The Standard and Professional editions of Endpoint MFA are available only with the corresponding editions of ADSelfService Plus. For example, if you have purchased the Professional Edition of ADSelfService Plus for 1,000 users, you must purchase the Professional Edition of Endpoint MFA for 1,000 users. Compare Editions.

Both editions of Endpoint MFA are licensed based on the number of domain users utilizing its features. This is applicable even to the machine-based MFA feature of the Professional Edition of Endpoint MFA, wherein the licensing is not based on the number of machines but on the number of users utilizing the device-based MFA feature enabled for the necessary devices.

To understand how the machine-based MFA feature works, consider two users, Nick and Bob, and two machines, A and B. Imagine the admin has configured machine logon MFA for Nick and machine-based MFA for machine A. Bob and machine B have no such MFA configurations. This means that, during logon to machine B, Nick will be prompted for MFA, whereas Bob will skip it. But, for machine A, both users will be required to complete MFA before logging on. Machine-based MFA is useful for securing business-critical devices like servers.

Both the Standard and Professional Editions of Endpoint MFA can only be purchased with the corresponding editions of ADSelfService Plus; i.e., the Standard Edition of Endpoint MFA cannot be purchased with the Professional Edition of ADSelfService Plus and vice versa.
