  • Ransomware and other malware can easily identify and spread to the computers that have shared folders to Everyone group which might also include a compromised computer. To prevent this, folder shares assigned to Everyone group must be disabled.

  • Follow the below steps to resolve the misconfiguration. Step 1:Navigate to windows explorer. Step 2:In the address bar, type in "\". The folders you have shared will be listed here. Step 3: Right click on a shared folder and click on properties. Step 4: Navigate to sharing> advanced sharing> permissions. Here, the users for whom the folder is shared and their permissions will be listed. Step 5: Remove "everyone".
