Working with Endpoint Central

Starting Endpoint Central

The following methods can be used to start the product -

  • Select Start -> Programs -> ManageEngine UEMS Server -> Start ManageEngine UEMS Server
  • In the notification area of the task bar -> Right click on -> ManageEngine Endpoint Central icon -> Start Service
  • Run services.msc -> Right click on -> ManageEngine UEMS Server -> Start

On starting the product, the client is automatically launched in the default browser.

The following processes are started along with the product:

  1. <Install_Dir>\DesktopCentral_Server\jre\bin\java.exe (For run time environment)
  2. <Install_Dir>\DesktopCentral_Server\jre\bin\javaw.exe (For run time environment - used for standalone processes)
  3. <Install_Dir>\DesktopCentral_Server\pgsql\bin\postgres.exe (For the default database server)
  4. <Install_Dir>\DesktopCentral_Server\bin\wrapper.exe (For running the application as a service)
  5. <Install_Dir>\DesktopCentral_Server\ServerTroubleShooter\bin\MEDCCPUMonitor.exe (For troubleshooting purposes)

Note: When the product is initially started or updated to the latest version in machines with activated firewall, Windows will pop-up security alerts that it has blocked any of the above mentioned programs. Click 'Allow access' and proceed.

Launching the Endpoint Central Client

To launch the client,

  1. Open a web browser and type http://hostname:8020 in the address bar. Here the hostname refers to the DNS name of the machine where Endpoint Central is running.

  2. Specify the user name and password as admin in the respective fields and click Login.

Steps to perform after initial login

When you login to the product for the first time, perform the following steps:

  1. Define the scope of management - Scope can be limited to a small set of computers or the whole domain.

  2. Define and apply configurations to either users or computers. The applied configurations will take effect during user logon for user configurations and during reboot for computer configurations.

  3. Setup Patch Management Module

  4. Setup Software Deployment Module

  5. Setup Inventory Management

Stopping Endpoint Central

To stop the product, navigate to Services -> ManageEngine UEMS Server -> Stop ManageEngine UEMS Server
