What is Audit: Force audit policy subcategory settings (Windows Vista or later) to override audit policy category settings

Audit: Force audit policy subcategory settings to override audit policy category settings is a security policy, when enabled, allows the audit policy subcategory settings to override the audit policy category settings. On Windows Vista and later systems, audit policy can be set at the subcategory level. However, when an audit policy is applied as part of group policy, it can only be applied at the category level. Therefore, when new computers are added to a network, the group policy of the network will override the audit policy of the new computers. To avoid group policy overriding the audit policy at the subcategory level, you can enable the Audit: Force audit policy subcategory settings policy.

This setting can be accessed by navigating to Local Security Policy > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options > Audit: Force audit policy subcategory settings (Windows Vista or later) to override audit policy category settings.
