The previous SIEM tool in use at MIB was functional but difficult to manage. Creating custom rules or performing searches involved a steep learning curve and operational delays. The IT team was actively looking for a platform that could offer the same capabilities with greater usability and flexibility. As Cole Holloway, chief technology officer, explained:
"We had a regular SIEM. It just was very difficult to create rules and manage things within it, so we were looking for something that was more user-friendly."
The solution: ManageEngine Log360
MIB selected ManageEngine Log360 for its ease of use and modular approach. What began as a project to replace a SIEM solution quickly evolved into developing a broader log management strategy. Log360's exchange log module was purchased later as the team discovered more use cases within the product.
"We've actually found [Log360] to be much more robust than our than our previous tool. We purchased the module for exchange logs...and we find ourselves using that quite often as well."
Streamlined implementation and expert support
Instead of implementing Log360 on its own, MIB opted for Log360’s onboarding service. The implementation was hands-on, well-guided, and included training sessions for MIB's internal team.
"We were involved in every step of the process, so we were able to watch [the implementation] ourselves and understand it. And then there was training afterwards, and it was very good."
"It was well worth what we paid compared to the overall price of the product to have someone help us through that implementation."
Outcomes and improvements
After implementation, Log360 proved to be a dependable and user-friendly solution. While the platform is feature-rich, MIB found it manageable, intuitive, and appreciated that it didn't require constant oversight.
"You kind of set it and forget it... [It's] much more user-friendly if we need to go in and create a new rule and do searches."
Although the interface had a learning curve, it was not seen as a downside, but rather a result of the product's robust capabilities. In terms of support, the Log360 team was responsive and efficient when issues arose.
"If we have a problem, we can usually get on the chat and get a response fairly quickly and get the help that that we need."
Recommendation and final thoughts
MIB's IT team had a positive experience with both Log360 and the onboarding service. The IT team found the implementation smooth, the pricing fair, and the overall experience simple. When asked if they would recommend Log360 to others, the response was clear.
"Would definitely recommend."
