How to Add/Remove Groups for Bulk User Accounts in Active Directory?

Objective: Add or remove groups from the memberOf attribute for multiple user accounts in Active Directory simultaneously with a single CSV import.

  1. Navigate to Management > User Management > User Modification > Modify Bulk Users.
  2. Select the Domain to which the users you wish to modify belong to.
  3. Click on Import and select the CSV you wish to upload. You can find a sample CSV here.
  4. Note:
    • In case you want to add or remove a user to or from multiple groups, you can add all group names together separated by commas.
    • These attributes will be handy to create a CSV to add/remove user accounts from groups. You can check out the other attributes supported by ADManager Plus, here.
    Purpose LDAP attribute Value
    To specify the user sAMAccountName User's logon name (Pre Windows 2000)
    Add to group memberOf name of groups separated by commas.
    Remove from group removememberOf name of groups separated by commas.
  5. Select all the users. Then select the attributes you wish to modify.
  6. Click on Advanced Options, to configure whether you want to append the new values to the existing ones or replace the old values with the existing ones. Then click Okay.
  7. Click Update in AD.
