Find and remove inactive AD user accounts

Objective : Find and remove inactive AD user accounts

Solution : Inactive user reports can be generated and removed manually or through automation.

To remove inactive users manually

  1. Go to AD Reports Tab.
  2. Select User Reports. Under Logon Reports, select Inactive users.
  3. Select the domain and choose the OU, which is optional.
  4. Select the 'Desired Time Period' for which the users have been inactive. Click the checkbox against 'Exclude Never Logged On users' and 'Exclude Disabled Users' to exclude the users in the reports. Click 'Generate'.
  5. Select the user(s) you want to delete and select 'Delete'.

To remove inactive users using Automation 

  1. Click Automation Tab.
  2. Under Automation section, select Create New Automation.
  3. Enter a suitable 'Automation Name' and 'Description' in the text box provided.
  4. In Automation category, select User Automation from the drop down list. 
  5. Choose the domain in which you want to remove the inactive users and if necessary, choose the OU by selecting 'Add OUs'
  6. In Automation Task/Policy, select 'Delete Users'. Check the box against 'Implement Business workflow' if deemed necessary. Please find more information about Business Workflow here.
  7. In 'From Report' option, select 'Inactive Users' from the drop down list. Select the 'Desired Time Period' for which the users have been inactive. Click the checkbox against 'Exclude Never Logged On users' and 'Exclude Disabled User's to exclude the users in the reports. Add conditions to refine the results. Click 'OK'.
  8. Specify the time/interval at which the task should be run in the 'Execution Time' section. Click 'Save'.
