How to update the ADSelfService Plus Windows login agent

The ADSelfService Plus login agent can be installed on Windows machines either manually or through the ADSelfService Plus admin portal, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), Microsoft Configuration Manager, or tools such as Endpoint Central.

This article outlines how to update the Windows login agent to its latest version.

Objective: This page aims to enable administrators to update the Windows login agent on their organization's devices.

Prerequisite

Permissions: ADSelfService Plus super admin permissions are required to manage the login agent.

Methods to update the login agent

Note: Starting from ADSelfService Plus build 6304, the Windows login agent can no longer be uninstalled via the Control Panel. This change prevents unauthorized or unintended removal of the agent. Please refer to the instructions provided below for managing the agent.

From the ADSelfService Plus admin portal,

Via the ADSelfService Plus web portal

  1. Navigate to Configuration > Administrative Tools > GINA/Mac/Linux (Ctrl+Alt+Del) > GINA /Mac/Linux Installation > Installed Machines.
  2. Select the machines where the agent is to be updated and click Reinstall.
  3. Once done, you can check if the latest version of the login agent has been updated in all the selected workstations, in the Version column of the Agent Installed Machines Report (Reports > GINA/mac/Linux Reports > Agent Installed Machines Report).

Manual update of the login agent

If you are updating the agent manually, you will need to first uninstall the existing installation before reinstalling the new version.

Steps to manually uninstall the existing installation:

  1. Run Command Prompt as an administrator.
  2. Execute the command msiexec /x {E451B224-C4E6-452E-BB61-2EFD4DC79A9C} to uninstall the login agent.

Once uninstalled, follow the manual installation steps in this guide to update the login agent to the latest version.

Login agent update via GPO

If your organization installs the Login Agent via GPOs, you will have to replace the existing ADSelfservicePlusClientSoftware.msi file in the GPO with its updated version.

You will also need to replace the existing ReinstallAgent.vbs file in the GPO with its updated version from the the ADSelfService Plus admin portal. You can find the steps in this guide .

Login agent update via Microsoft Configuration Manager

If you wish to update the login agent via Microsoft Configuration Manager, you will have to replace the existing ADSelfservicePlusClientSoftware.msi file in the Microsoft Configuration Manager with its updated version, before reinstalling the agent. You can find the steps in this guide.

If you wish to update the login agent via Endpoint Central, you will have to replace the existing ADSelfservicePlusClientSoftware.msi file in the Endpoint Central configuration with its updated version, before reinstalling the agent. You can find the steps in this guide.
