Minimum Disk Space Required For Backup Storage

Space required to store your Active Directory backups

The storage space required depends on:

  1. The number of objects (users, groups, OUs, contacts, computers, GPOs, DNS) to be backed up
  2. The number of linked attributes (member and memberOf) present in the AD domain when the initial full backup is taken.
  3. The period for which the backups will be retained.

The following table represents the approximate storage required based on the criteria mentioned above.

Note 1: For every additional million group membership links, the storage space needed will increase by 1GB.

Space required to store your Exchange (on-premises and online) backups

This requirement varies based on the number of backed-up Exchange (on-premises and online) mailboxes, their sizes, and the retention period that you set for your backups. RecoveryManager Plus typically compresses backups to a third of their original size. If the total size of the mailboxes is 50GB, make sure that you have 50GB of free disk space to store the full backup and all subsequent incremental backups.

Space required to store your SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business backups

This requirement varies based on the size of your SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business sites, and the retention period that you set for your backups. RecoveryManager Plus typically compresses backups to a third of their original size. If the total size of your SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business sites is 1TB, make sure that you have 1TB of free disk space to store the full backup and all subsequent incremental backups.
