WinPE tool automatic download failed!

Problem

You can see any of the following error messages while downloading the WinPE tool:

  • Access denied
  • Error 404
  • Error 407
  • Connection time out/ bug in authorization handling/ connection refused

Cause

The error could be due to any of the following reasons:

  1. User installing WinPE tool does not have Read and Write permission to the download location.
  2. Proxy not defined, or wrong password or wrong proxy host configured.
  3. Low bandwidth or delay in downloading files.
  4. Downloads from Endpoint Central server (java.exe) or adksetup.exe are blocked by firewall/proxy.
  5. Proxy either not configured or the authentication provided does not have permission to download EXE files.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, follow the steps given below:

  1. Ensure that the user installing the WinPE tool has Read and Write permissions to the download location.
  2. Verify that the correct proxy details have been entered.
  3. Ensure sufficient available bandwidth for downloads.
  4. Check "Application Control Policy" settings in your firewall/proxy to allow downloads from Endpoint Central server (java.exe) and adksetup.exe.
  5. Add the proxy settings:
    • Navigate to Admin → Server Settings → Proxy Server.
    • Type the appropriate username, password, and IP address. Ensure the user has permission to download EXE files.
    • Ensure that downloads from http://download.microsoft.com are permitted in the proxy configuration.
