Patch Installation Failure-Installation Service Unavailable

Problem

You cannot install patches. You see the following error on the screen, 'Fails with an unknown error code 1073741502'.

Cause

You get this error because the service required to install the patches is not available. For example, during patch installation if the user reboots the machine, the service used to install the required patches will be stopped to shutdown the computer.

Resolution

You must try deploying the patches again. This can be done automatically or manually.

To re-deploy patches, follow the steps given below:

  1. Click the Patch Mgmt tab
  2. Go to Deployment -> Manual Deployment
  3. Click the Modify Configuration icon, in the Action column
  4. In the Execution Settings section, check the Retry this configuration on failed targets checkbox

Note: This ensures that if the deployment of the configuration fails, it is re-deployed automatically.

  5. Click Deploy

You have re-deployed the configuration and ensured that if the re-deployment fails, the configuration will be deployed again, automatically, to targets that have failed.
