Data Breach

Popular retailer J.Crew victim of a data breach

In March 2020, US-based retailer J.Crew disclosed that routine scanning revealed that customer account credentials were compromised and accessed by an unauthorized party in April 2019. The information stored in the account included the last four digits of credit cards, the expiration dates, card types, billing addresses linked to those cards, order numbers, shipping confirmation numbers, and shipment status of those orders.

What did J.Crew do?

Once the incident was discovered, J.Crew disabled the affected accounts and notified all the impacted customers regarding the breach. It also instructed customers to contact customer care to review their accounts and reset their passwords. As a precaution, J.Crew has instructed the affected customers to change the password on any other account where the compromised password is also being used.
