On August 25, 2019, web hosting platform Hostinger issued a statement regarding a data breach that affected one of its servers. Customer information such as usernames, email addresses, hashed passwords, first names, and IP addresses were compromised.
On August 23, Hostinger received a notification that one of its internal servers was accessed by an unauthorized user. The attacker used an authorization token to access the API server, which contained the compromised client information. Fortunately client account information stored in the website was not impacted. Since payments are taken care of by third-party providers, the financial data of customers was also not affected.
As soon as the attack was identified, Hostinger hired a third-party cybersecurity team to investigate the attack. Hostinger has reset all users’ passwords and has also reviewed its security systems.
