Sportswear label Puma was a victim of a ransomware attack confirmed in January 2022. The attackers stole data of 6,632 Puma employees in the ransomware attack that affected Ultimate Kronos Group (UKG) HR management tools. The stolen information includes names, Social Security numbers, and other personal information.

During the investigation following the attack, UKG discovered that Puma was one of the customers impacted by the incident. “Regrettably, this letter is to inform you that we were recently the victim of a ransomware attack that involved some of your personal information, which was provided to us in connection with the services we provide to PUMA,” UKG said in a letter sent to the affected individuals in February.

The company said it has taken the necessary steps to bolster its IT security measures to prevent future attacks. The victims have been offered a two-year membership of Experian IdentityWorks, which comes with credit monitoring, identify restoration, and identity theft insurance.

How ManageEngine can help

Investing in a ransomware detection tool helps you detect and respond to ransomware attacks in real time to minimize the impact on your organization. Here are some steps you can take to handle ransomware attacks.

  • Detect ransomware with real-time mass access alerts. Monitor the frequency of file modifications by a user, and issue alerts whenever the number of modifications crosses a specified threshold within a specified time period.
  • Quarantine and shut down ransomware-infected devices with a customizable and automated response system. Set up your own automated alert responses through the execution of a batch file to respond to mass access alerts automatically.
  • View in-depth details of events for further investigation. Generate customizable, audit-ready reports on all file-related changes, access attempts, and share permissions.

ManageEngine DataSecurity Plus has the ability to perform all of these best practices and can automatically identify and mitigate ransomware threats. Start your free, 30-day trial of DataSecurity Plus today.
