Canon falls victim to a ransomware attack

In August 2020, multinational corporate giant Canon is reported to have been hit by a ransomware attack. The attack compromised multiple internal applications like email systems and Microsoft Teams, and more than 20 Canon domains.

The Maze ransomware group claimed to have stolen 10 terabytes of data from Canon’s servers. Although Canon has not confirmed the attack, it has circulated a memo to internal users about the unavailability of the applications.

The Maze group has not disclosed information such as the ransom amount, proof of stolen data, or the amount of devices encrypted. The group has gained notoriety in recent months due to a number of attacks carried out on C ognizant, P itney Bowes, Ba nco BCR.
