Agent settings
Agent installation key
The Agent Installation Key is required to establish a secure connection between the product and the server during agent installation. Enter this value in the DataSecurity Plus Agent Installation Wizard when prompted during manual agent installation. If the existing agent installation key is leaked or compromised, it is necessary to regenerate the agent installation key. Find the steps on how to regenerate the agent installation key below.
Steps for regenerating the agent installation key
To regenerate the agent installation key:
- Log in to the system where DataSecurity Plus is installed.
- Click Start and type in Command Prompt. Right-click Command Prompt, then select Run as administrator.
- Go to the <installation directory> \ManageEngine\DataSecurity Plus\bin folder.
- Open Command Prompt and type cmdUtil.bat.
- Enter the DataSecurity Plus domain's admin username and password when prompted.
- Enter the following command: admin agent regenerate_installation_key
Key requirement for establishing the connection
Make sure to reinstall the agent with the newly regenerated agent installation key for successful communication between DataSecurity Plus and the target machines. To learn more about how DataSecurity Plus' agent works, read the agent document.
The new agent installation key will be generated and displayed.
Best practices to follow when regenerating the agent installation key
When regenerating the agent installation key, ensure the following:
- The agent installation key should not be updated during an active agent installation.
- If the agent installation key is updated during the installation process, uninstall the existing agent and reinstall it with the new agent installation key.
- When manually installing the agent, the agent installation key should be entered in the corresponding field in the DataSecurity Plus Agent Installation Wizard.
