Server Settings

  1. Why do I get a "No server(s) configured" error message?    

                DataSecurity Plus is a server based file auditing tool. A server has to be configured to generate reports. 
                Click Add Server to go to server configuration wizard.

  2. While adding servers, I get an error message saying "No servers found in the domain"

  3. After selecting the servers, I get an error saying "No shares found".

    1. Ensure that required previlege for getting share is provided in domain configuration
    2. Check if the selected server is operational and is accessible from the computer where DataSecurity Plus is installed.
    3. RPC Server port may be disbaled or  blocked by firewall.




  4. After the server & shares have been selected, while installing agent, it shows "Installing Agent Failure".

    Possible reasons:

    1. The Remote installation currently employed, requires no other active share connection from this computer to the server be open at the time of installing server agent.
    2. Unable to connect server/RPC server error - Ensure that the server is operational and accessible from the DataSecurity Plus server machine.
    3. Windows Servers are only supported now.
    4. Proper privileged credentials are needed.

    Solutions:

    1. To try installing agent again, Login into DataSecurity Plus -> Admin tab -> Manage Agent; Click on the "Install Agent" icon next to the File Server.

    2. To manually download the agent and install in the File Server
      1. Login into DataSecurity Plus
      2. Goto Admin tab
      3. Click on "Manage Agent"
      4. Download the appropriate(32bit/64bit) by clicking on the "Manual Install Agent"
      5. Provide "Server Name", "Port" and "Protocol" details correctly during agent installation.


  5. What does "Last Event Read Time" in DataSecurity Plus mean?

    Solutions:

    1. The "Last Event Read Time" in DataSecurity Plus is the last time that DataSecurity Plus server has recieved the event from the agent running in the target server. The Last Event Read Time changes only if there is fresh and relevant data complying to the audit configurations is collected from the DataSecurity Plus agent.


  6. Why do I get the error message "cluster not available" while configuring a cluster server?

    Possible Reasons:

    1. You might not have the necessary privileges to access the cluster.
    2. The cluster might not be operational or accessible from the computer where DataSecurity Plus is installed.
    3. The RPC server port could be disabled or blocked by a firewall.

                DataSecurity Plus, upon starting, discovers the domains from the DNS Server associated with the machine running the product. If no domain details are available in the DNS Server, it shows this message.

                When the DNS associated with the machine running DataSecurity Plus do not contain the necessary information. You need to add the Domain Controllers manually.

      3. When I add the Domain Controller, I get an error as "The Servers are not operational". What does it mean?

                This error could be due to any of the following reasons:

                    DC's are down
                    Servers not available.
                    Firewall has been enabled, and port 389 is closed.
                    Busy - try after some time?

    4. When I add the Domain Controller, I get an error as "Unable to get domain DNS / FLAT name". What does it mean?

        This error could be due to any of the following reasonss:

    1. When the specified user name or the password is invalid.
    2. Anonymous login (when no user name and password is provided)
    3. When IP Address of the Domain Controller is specified instead of its name.

    5.  The status column in the domain settings says that the user does not have Admin Privilege?

                This is a warning message to indicate that the specified user does not have administrator privileges i.e, the user is not a member of the Domain Admins Group. Hence permissions applicable to Administrator  may not be available to this user.

Reports

  1. My reports showing - "No Data Available". Why?

    1. DataSecurity Plus Agent Side Trouble Shooting Steps-
    2. Go to File Server or agent installed computerand make sure that

      1. You are able to ping the DataSecurity Plus installed computer.
      2. You are able to establish a connection to DataSecurity Plus from your file server. eg., telnet <DATASECURITYPLUS_SERVER> <PORT_NUMBER>

      PORT_NUMBER : Default web server port is 8800, if the port number is changed use it appropriately.


    3. DataSecurity Plus Server Side Trouble shooting steps-
    4. Go to DataSecurity Plus server and make sure that-

      1. Agent is installed and running-

        1. Go to "Admin" tab, click on "Manage Agent".
        2. Under "Status" column, check if the agent is running.
        3. If it's not installed, click on "Install agent" under "Actions" column to re-install the agent. You can also choose to manually install the agent.
          If it's not running, click on "Start Agent Service" under "Actions" column to make the agent run. You can choose to manually initiate running of the agent using its service name- "ManageEngineDataSecurityPlus - AgentService"

      2. Agent is in sync-

        1. Go to "Configuration" tab, click on "Report Profile Configuration".
        2. Under "Sync Status" column, check if the agent is in sync.
        3. If not, click on "Sync Profile" under "Actions" column.

      If you are still not able to install/ run/ sync the agent, see to it that-

      1. You are able to establish communication between the DataSecurity Plus server and the agent by pinging file server from the DataSecurity Plus server
      2. Anti- virus or firewall is not blocking the port.

  2. Everytime a document file is modified I get a permission change event along with the modify event. Why?

  3.                
                        The MS OFFICE applications create temporary files of the format '.tmp' and performs all the modifications in the temporary file. Once the user saves the file, the original file is deleted and the temporary is renamed to the original file's name. After this, the permission of the origianl file is set to the new file which raises a permission change event.
